The Scottish Government is taking a lead in the development of the 'OneScotland Portal', a signposting service that will provide the citizens of Scotland with a convenient point of access to the Scottish Government, Local Authority, Agency and NDPB public services and information. There will also be links to key services provided by the UK Government e.g. renewal of car tax.

The aim of the portal is to make it easier for citizens to find what they are looking for across the range of existing public sector websites, removing the need to understand organisational boundaries, which can be both confusing and time consuming. The portal will mean that citizens will not have to search for the information across multiple sites or need to know which organisation does what.

Signposting to relevant information and services held on websites will be done in a logical and structured manner, by organising related services and information into meaningful topics.

The joining up of related services together with a fresher approach to the presentation of information will mean that, for example, if a disabled person is looking for information on how to apply for Disability Living Allowance he or she will also be presented with other information that may be of relevance such as eligibility for housing benefit, the blue badge scheme and applying for relevant housing adaptation grants.

The delivery of Phase One of the project will provide the strategic platform on which a potentially more integrated and personalised portal can begin to be developed with a more seamless integration of service provision through the use of the Scottish Citizen's Account and a strategic approach to public sector website provision in Scotland.

The OneScotland Portal is being developed in partnership with the Customer First Programme, utilising the existing infrastructure and providing a key building block for a more strategic and joined up approach to the delivery of public services between the central and local government.

The portal is currently being developed and is undergoing user acceptance testing.
